MackSolo Team Update – Day 66 ✈️ 🌍
As Mack is having some well-deserved rest from flying in #Seychelles, we would like to give you a sneaky peek behind the scenes.
This is Sam, Mack's dad, who thanks to his military helicopter 🚁 pilot background and years of flight experience in air rallies, ferry flying and various other curious and strange endeavours, is the "Grand Aviation Manitou" behind the FlyZolo and Macksolo projects.
What's he doing here? Well, during every single one of Mack's (and during Flyzolo, Zara's) flights, someone on the «flight ops» team tracks every flight, for the entirety of the flight and remains in permanent contact 📞 with them via the YB Tracking and Iridium Communications systems.
Same time zone, little issue. Trickier when the flights happen in a totally different time zone. This is when Sam and Megan - also on flight ops - start alternating night 🌙 watches remotely from wherever they may be based. So although physically there, they are sometimes virtually living in a different time zone than their friends and family. During day hours, they also still have to deal with paperwork and logistics. Honestly, it’s pretty exhausting! 😴
So, to mitigate reduced sleep time, it happens that the flight ops team is more than happy to move away from home base and move closer to the time zone Mack happens to be in. And so it is the case now.
