MackSolo Team Update – Day 65 ✈️ 🌍
Mack has landed in Seychelles 🇸🇨! We repeat! Mack has safely landed in Seychelles on his way back up towards the Arabian peninsula 💪🕺🥳🎉.
The purple dawn light at Mauritius 🇲🇺 was breathtaking this morning and with a good tailwind, Mack set off back North. During his long oversea flight, he weaved his way up through magnificent tropical islands. If you zoom in on the live tracker (http://www.macksolo.com/journey) each of them has its own airstrip. Some of them take up the entire length of an island, like Agaléga island, others just chop the island in half crosswise, like Coëtivy island. They would have been perfect alternate airfields if Mack had to make a precautionary landing, with the proviso that Coëtivy seems to be an active prison for low-security prisoners... 😬😅 "Visitation is strictly controlled and access is only possible by private airplane charter". Surely they would have made an exception if Mack had needed an emergency landing... 😅🙏
Now, look closely at the aerial images of those islands in the pictures here (or go to Google Earth). Then, shift your vision a bit 👀. Can you see some of them are only what seems to be the top of an underwater mountain🏔poking up through the surface of the ocean?
Could all these islands perhaps form part of an entire mountain range? Well, that brings us to the next question: What is the longest mountain range on Earth 🌍?
It's the mid-ocean ridge system: a continuous range of underwater volcanoes 🌋 that wraps around the globe like seams on a baseball, stretching nearly 65,000 kilometers (40,390 miles). The majority of the system is underwater, with an average water depth to the top of the ridge of 2,500 meters (8,200 feet).
Despite being such a prominent feature on our planet, much of the mid-ocean ridge system remains a mystery ✨... How beautiful is our planet!
