Ever heard of Aerial Seed Bombing? The concept is simple: throw seeds from an #airplane ✈️ as a method to engage in #reforestation.
No holes to dig, no seedlings 🌱 to transplant: only encased #seeds are thrown out randomly into the wilderness from the #sky. This is the new way of planting trees. Known as seed 💣-ing, the method is being practiced by conservationists working with Teddy Kinyanjui from SeedballsKenya who deals in eco-friendly products and has devised charcoal-coated Acacia seeds. The charcoal dust balls around the acacia seeds protect them from 🦜, 🐜, and other animals until rains 🌧 fall to stimulate growth after they are thrown from the sky.
In 2016, aged 11, Mack heard about the project for the first time when his parents partnered up with Teddy and asked the pilots from the #VintageAirRally to throw "seed bombs" from their vintage biplanes. The hope was to help (as much or as little as possible) with some aerial reforestation, but equally to bring some visibility to this amazing project.
Mack had only one wish: continue what had been started and throw more "Seeds of change" from his cockpit. As you will see in the different videos, not as easy as it sounds: there are different "bombing" techniques and a lot of trial and error 😂😅!
Meanwhile, 20,063,000 seed balls have been distributed since September 2016 to help with Kenyan reforestation. One seed at a time. Like in the colibri legend: every little helps so Mack tried to help by throwing out some more!
Fingers crossed 🤞 some of them will grow into nice, fully grown trees 🌳.
